BYD Expands Electric Fleet in Indonesia

Jakarta, January 18, 2024 – China’s renowned electric vehicle manufacturer, BYD, marked a significant milestone in Jakarta as it introduced three cutting-edge electric cars – SEAL, Atto 3, and Dolphin. The unveiling ceremony witnessed the global leader’s commitment to promoting sustainable transportation in Southeast Asia.

Innovation for a Sustainable Future

General Manager of BYD Asia-Pacific Auto Sales Division, Liu Xueliang, expressed enthusiasm during the launch, stating, “This is an extraordinary moment for BYD as we officially present ourselves to Indonesian consumers to offer innovative new energy vehicles with sustainable benefits.”

Strategic Expansion and Manufacturing Plans

Eagle Zhao, president director of PT BYD Motor Indonesia, outlined BYD’s strategic plans for Indonesia. “We will accelerate the construction of a manufacturing plant in Indonesia starting this year,” he announced. Currently boasting seven dealer networks, BYD aims to increase this number to 50 by the end of the year, demonstrating a robust commitment to the region.

Government Support and Collaboration

The grand launch received support from Indonesian government officials, including Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan and Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto. Pandjaitan emphasized the government’s commitment, revealing the signing of a memorandum of understanding with BYD in China in May last year to develop the electric vehicle ecosystem in Indonesia.

Encouraging Local Integration

Airlangga Hartarto urged BYD to increase the utilization of local content, enhancing industrial competitiveness. “The government continues to encourage BYD to increase the utilization of local content so that it can encourage industrial competitiveness,” he remarked.

The ceremony showcased journalists capturing the sleek designs of BYD’s electric vehicles, marking a pivotal moment in the integration of sustainable transportation in Indonesia’s automotive landscape.
