In the dynamic landscape of automotive trends, Jharkhand emerges as a frontrunner in embracing the electric vehicle (EV) revolution. In the year 2023, the state witnessed an impressive 54.38% surge in EV sales, a remarkable feat surpassing the national average growth of 49.25%.

Stellar Growth Figures

In numerical terms, a total of 21,122 electric vehicles, encompassing two-wheelers, three-wheelers, commercial vehicles, and passenger vehicles, found buyers in 2023. This figure represents a substantial increase from the 13,682 EVs sold in the corresponding period of 2022. The overall vehicle sales in the state rose by 10.93%, further emphasizing the noteworthy shift towards cleaner and sustainable transportation options.

Comparison with National Trends

Jharkhand’s EV success story becomes even more evident when compared to the national scenario. The Federation of Automobile Dealers’ Association (FADA) reported that the entire country experienced a 49.25% growth in EV sales. Jharkhand’s surpassing of this national average indicates a burgeoning awareness and preference for eco-friendly modes of transport among its residents.

Insights from FADA Chairman, Jharkhand Chapter

Govind Mewar, the chairman of FADA’s Jharkhand chapter, highlighted that the retail sales data underscores the significant rise in EV sales, reflecting an increasing awareness and inclination towards sustainable transportation at both national and state levels.

Segment-wise Growth

Breaking down the EV sales figures, three-wheelers dominated with 13,226 units sold, closely followed by 7,413 two-wheelers. Notably, the two-wheeler segment witnessed a 10.13% growth, while three-wheeler sales experienced an impressive 94.67% surge in 2023.

Comprehensive Vehicle Sales Overview

Examining all vehicle categories, including petrol, diesel, CNG, and EV, Jharkhand saw an overall sales growth of 10.93% in 2023. Among these segments, two-wheelers emerged as the top-selling category, with 4,34,318 units sold, overshadowing the three-wheeler sales of 22,853 units during the same period.
